It’s an honor to write about the iconic Indian freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose whose undeterred spirit and patriotism led India to achieve independence in those difficult circumstances. January 23, 2021 marks his 125th birth anniversary and has been marked as Parakram (courage, valour) Divas by the Indian Government. Well, His courage did uproot a long history of oppression and created a new era for India.
He could have easily led a comfortable life after clearing the Indian Civil Services examination but He chose to fight for India’s freedom by forming the Azad Hind Fauj (Indian National Army) to overthrow the British Empire.
In His tweets on Parakaram Day, Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji has tweeted,
“May the thoughts and ideals of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose keep inspiring us to work towards building an India that he would be proud of…a strong, confident and self-reliant India, whose human-centric approach contributes to a better planet in the years to come.”-Shri Narendra Modi Ji
Here are some of the famous quotes by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose which ignited the dream of independence in millions of people and which will continue to inspire the present and future generations.
“At this unprecedented juncture in our history, I have a word for you. Do not be disheartened by our temporary defeat; be cheerful and optimistic. Above all, never lose your faith in the destiny of India. There is no power on earth which can keep India in bondage. India will be free and, that too, soon. JAl-HIND!”–Subhas Chandra Bose
Where did He get the courage to think about freedom and independence amidst a foreign rule in the country? And He didn’t just talk or discuss about these ideas, He transformed His thoughts into action.
Because He believed,
“No real change in history has been achieved by discussion.”-Subhas Chandra Bose
It was His belief in action that He led the Azad Hind Fauj to secure India Her long lost freedom.
On struggle and risks,
“Life loses half its interest if there is no struggle-if there are no risks to be taken.”-Subhas Chandra Bose
This applies to all aspects of life. Whether we want to achieve something in our career, health, or bring a change in society, we ought to take risks. The struggle makes it all worthwhile.
In the end, one of my favorites:
Nationalism is inspired by the highest ideals of the human race, Satyam (the truth), Shivam( the God), Sundaram (the beautiful).-Subhas Chandra Bose
It’s highly important that nationalism is driven by a greater and higher good rather than selfish and short-term goals.
I am grateful to be born and brought up in a country with such warriors. Remembering them gives me a reason to live for greater good and change. If we could practice even one of His quotes in our daily life, who knows what miracles might happen around.
